Since the flights have resumed their operations, many passengers have been facing issues and are refusing to cover their faces with masks, citing various reasons other than medical. Also, this refusal of masks has led to unnecessary fights or altercations during the whole journey (few passengers are also deboarded from the plane due to the huge turbulence).
The recent incident took place in an Allegiant Air flight to Utah where a man refused to cover his face with masks. According to reports, another passenger went furious arguing with the passenger who refused to wear a mask which led to a physical altercation. Also, the passenger had covered his face with a face shield but was reluctant to wear a mask. A co-passenger Rylie Lansford filmed the whole incident and uploaded it on social media, which since has gained a lot of visibility (as it has been viewed by many people). Rylie claimed that the argument between passengers started off right after they boarded the plane.
Rylie mentioned that first a flight attendant came to inform the passenger to cover his face with the mask and when he resorted to not wearing it, a co-passenger sitting next to him started arguing. Also, Rylie reiterated that the co-passenger was even drunk at a time and that’s why the fight took a physical turn. Well, their names haven’t been revealed or disclosed by the airlines and whether the other passenger was drunk or not, hasn’t been confirmed or investigated yet.
However, the passenger who refused to wear the mask was removed from the flight but the one who got into a physical fight with him was allowed to stay back. Allegiant Air also rolled out a statement about the same and said, “Face coverings must be made of solid material, fully cover the mouth and nose, fit snugly against the face, and be secured under the chin. Prohibited coverings include those with exhalation valves, holes (such as lace or mesh), neck gaiters, and bandanas. Face shields may be worn in addition to a face covering, but not as an alternative.”
